Crate TX50DBE Limo Battery Powered Guitar Amp (Black) review

Feature:
You can't expect everything in a battery powered PA. The effects knob is not quality, but the other controls do what's expected of them.

Quality:
No complaints in this area.

Value:
I don't know of any peers but I think Crate could have brought this amp to market for less money.

Desirability:
It's just a battery powered amp. If you need one, this one will do the job. If you can't find an a.c. outlet nearby, you can still make a lot of sound. It's excellent for use when playing in off-stage events where the alternative would be to go entirely acoustic on vocal and instrument. I do a lot of music for youth groups and at times my guitar and I find ourselves a long way from a.c. power. If that is your need, then up the rating of this amp a couple of notches.

Sound:
Sound is thin. With a 10" speaker and 50 watts, lows should be more robust.

Support:
I've never had to deal with support with any of my Crate amplifiers.

Overall:
This is a utility product used under special conditions. There is no need to replace it unless something that sounds much, much better comes on the market. When a.c. power is not available, it is indespensible. When you can plug into a.c., I would use another amp.The bottom line: Its does just what it's supposed to do. It could sound better, but it sounds a whole lot better than no sound reinforcement at all. This amp is capable of a fairly high SPL (sound pressure level).
